G1 Secure Solutions' (TLV:GOSS) three-year earnings growth trails the stellar shareholder returns
The most you can lose on any stock (assuming you don't use leverage) is 100% of your money. But in contrast you can make much more than 100% if the company does well. To wit, the G1 Secure Solutions Ltd (TLV:GOSS) share price has flown 116% in the last three years. Most would be happy with that. Also pleasing for shareholders was the 47% gain in the last three months.
Since the stock has added ₪76m to its market cap in the past week alone, let's see if underlying performance has been driving long-term returns.
While the efficient markets hypothesis continues to be taught by some, it has been proven that markets are over-reactive dynamic systems, and investors are not always rational. One imperfect but simple way to consider how the market perception of a company has shifted is to compare the change in the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price movement.
During three years of share price growth, G1 Secure Solutions achieved compound earnings per share growth of 6.2% per year. In comparison, the 29% per year gain in the share price outpaces the EPS growth. So it's fair to assume the market has a higher opinion of the business than it did three years ago. It's not unusual to see the market 're-rate' a stock, after a few years of growth.
You can see how EPS has changed over time in the image below (click on the chart to see the exact values).

What About Dividends?
When looking at investment returns, it is important to consider the difference between total shareholder return (TSR) and share price return. The TSR incorporates the value of any spin-offs or discounted capital raisings, along with any dividends, based on the assumption that the dividends are reinvested. It's fair to say that the TSR gives a more complete picture for stocks that pay a dividend. In the case of G1 Secure Solutions, it has a TSR of 160% for the last 3 years. That exceeds its share price return that we previously mentioned. This is largely a result of its dividend payments!
A Different Perspective
It's good to see that G1 Secure Solutions has rewarded shareholders with a total shareholder return of 116% in the last twelve months. And that does include the dividend. That's better than the annualised return of 16% over half a decade, implying that the company is doing better recently. In the best case scenario, this may hint at some real business momentum, implying that now could be a great time to delve deeper. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand G1 Secure Solutions better, we need to consider many other factors. Even so, be aware that G1 Secure Solutions is showing 3 warning signs in our investment analysis , and 1 of those can't be ignored...
