Market Might Still Lack Some Conviction On Elco Ltd. (TLV:ELCO) Even After 25% Share Price Boost
The Elco Ltd. (TLV:ELCO) share price has done very well over the last month, posting an excellent gain of 25%. Looking back a bit further, it's encouraging to see the stock is up 28% in the last year.
Although its price has surged higher, it would still be understandable if you think Elco is a stock with good investment prospects with a price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") of 0.1x, considering almost half the companies in Israel's Construction industry have P/S ratios above 0.6x. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

What Does Elco's P/S Mean For Shareholders?
The recent revenue growth at Elco would have to be considered satisfactory if not spectacular. It might be that many expect the respectable revenue performance to degrade, which has repressed the P/S. Those who are bullish on Elco will be hoping that this isn't the case, so that they can pick up the stock at a lower valuation.

The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/S as low as Elco's is when the company's growth is on track to lag the industry.
If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a worthy increase of 4.4%. The latest three year period has also seen an excellent 45% overall rise in revenue, aided somewhat by its short-term performance. Accordingly, shareholders would have definitely welcomed those medium-term rates of revenue growth.
It's interesting to note that the rest of the industry is similarly expected to grow by 12% over the next year, which is fairly even with the company's recent medium-term annualised growth rates.
With this information, we find it odd that Elco is trading at a P/S lower than the industry. Apparently some shareholders are more bearish than recent times would indicate and have been accepting lower selling prices.
The Bottom Line On Elco's P/S
Despite Elco's share price climbing recently, its P/S still lags most other companies. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.
Our examination of Elco revealed its three-year revenue trends looking similar to current industry expectations hasn't given the P/S the boost we expected, given that it's lower than the wider industry P/S, When we see industry-like revenue growth but a lower than expected P/S, we assume potential risks are what might be placing downward pressure on the share price. revenue trends suggest that the risk of a price decline is low, investors appear to perceive a possibility of revenue volatility in the future.
