We'd be surprised if PCCW Limited (HKG:8) shareholders haven't noticed that the Acting Group MD, Hon Hing Hui, recently sold HK$3.4m worth of stock at HK$3.89 per share. The eyebrow raising move amounted to a reduction of 14% in their holding.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At PCCW

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Executive Chairman Tzar Kai Li for HK$14m worth of shares, at about HK$3.86 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at around the current price of HK$3.90. That means they have been optimistic about the company in the past, though they may have changed their mind. We do always like to see insider buying, but it is worth noting if those purchases were made at well below today's share price, as the discount to value may have narrowed with the rising price. In this case we're pleased to report that the insider bought shares at close to current prices. The only individual insider to buy over the last year was Tzar Kai Li.

Tzar Kai Li bought 72.52m shares over the last 12 months at an average price of HK$3.78. Insider Ownership Of PCCW

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It's great to see that PCCW insiders own 7.0% of the company, worth about HK$2.1b. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About PCCW Insiders?

An insider sold stock recently, but they haven't been buying. In contrast, they appear keener if you look at the last twelve months. On top of that, insiders own a significant portion of the company. So we're happy to look past recent trading.
