We'd be surprised if MTT Group Holdings Limited (HKG:2350) shareholders haven't noticed that the Executive Chairman of the Board & CEO, Ka Wai Ip, recently sold HK$1.5m worth of stock at HK$0.47 per share. On the bright side, that sale was only 0.9% of their holding, so we doubt it's very meaningful, on its own.

MTT Group Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In fact, the recent sale by Executive Chairman of the Board & CEO Ka Wai Ip was not their only sale of MTT Group Holdings shares this year. They previously made an even bigger sale of -HK$17m worth of shares at a price of HK$0.68 per share. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (HK$0.53). So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price.

Does MTT Group Holdings Boast High Insider Ownership?

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. MTT Group Holdings insiders own 63% of the company, currently worth about HK$209m based on the recent share price. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
