Here's Why I Think Novacon Technology Group (HKG:8635) Is An Interesting Stock
For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it completely lacks a track record of revenue and profit. But as Warren Buffett has mused, 'If you've been playing poker for half an hour and you still don't know who the patsy is, you're the patsy.' When they buy such story stocks, investors are all too often the patsy.
In the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, my choice may seem old fashioned; I still prefer profitable companies like Novacon Technology Group (HKG:8635). While profit is not necessarily a social good, it's easy to admire a business that can consistently produce it. Conversely, a loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the sweet milk of external capital may run sour.

How Fast Is Novacon Technology Group Growing Its Earnings Per Share?
Even modest earnings per share growth (EPS) can create meaningful value, when it is sustained reliably from year to year. So EPS growth can certainly encourage an investor to take note of a stock. It is therefore awe-striking that Novacon Technology Group's EPS went from HK$0.0066 to HK$0.032 in just one year. Even though that growth rate is unlikely to be repeated, that looks like a breakout improvement.
Careful consideration of revenue growth and earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margins can help inform a view on the sustainability of the recent profit growth. Novacon Technology Group's EBIT margins are flat but, of some concern, its revenue is actually down. And that does make me a little more cautious of the stock.

Since Novacon Technology Group is no giant, with a market capitalization of HK$40m, so you should definitely check its cash and debt before getting too excited about its prospects.
Are Novacon Technology Group Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
Personally, I like to see high insider ownership of a company, since it suggests that it will be managed in the interests of shareholders. So we're pleased to report that Novacon Technology Group insiders own a meaningful share of the business. Indeed, with a collective holding of 75%, company insiders are in control and have plenty of capital behind the venture. This makes me think they will be incentivised to plan for the long term - something I like to see. Of course, Novacon Technology Group is a very small company, with a market cap of only HK$40m. That means insiders only have HK$30m worth of shares, despite the large proportional holding. That might not be a huge sum but it should be enough to keep insiders motivated!
Should You Add Novacon Technology Group To Your Watchlist?
Novacon Technology Group's earnings per share have taken off like a rocket aimed right at the moon. That sort of growth is nothing short of eye-catching, and the large investment held by insiders certainly brightens my view of the company. The hope is, of course, that the strong growth marks a fundamental improvement in the business economics. So to my mind Novacon Technology Group is worth putting on your watchlist; after all, shareholders do well when the market underestimates fast growing companies. You still need to take note of risks, for example - Novacon Technology Group has 2 warning signs (and 1 which shouldn't be ignored) we think you should know about.
Although Novacon Technology Group certainly looks good to me, I would like it more if insiders were buying up shares. If you like to see insider buying, too, then this free list of growing companies that insiders are buying, could be exactly what you're looking for.
