If You Like EPS Growth Then Check Out Da Ming International Holdings (HKG:1090) Before It's Too Late
Like a puppy chasing its tail, some new investors often chase 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without revenue, let alone profit. And in their study titled Who Falls Prey to the Wolf of Wall Street?' Leuz et. al. found that it is 'quite common' for investors to lose money by buying into 'pump and dump' schemes.
In the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, my choice may seem old fashioned; I still prefer profitable companies like Da Ming International Holdings (HKG:1090). Even if the shares are fully valued today, most capitalists would recognize its profits as the demonstration of steady value generation. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, but time is often a friend of the profitable company, especially if it is growing.

How Fast Is Da Ming International Holdings Growing?
If a company can keep growing earnings per share (EPS) long enough, its share price will eventually follow. That makes EPS growth an attractive quality for any company. I, for one, am blown away by the fact that Da Ming International Holdings has grown EPS by 39% per year, over the last three years. That sort of growth never lasts long, but like a shooting star it is well worth watching when it happens.
I like to see top-line growth as an indication that growth is sustainable, and I look for a high earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margin to point to a competitive moat (though some companies with low margins also have moats). While we note Da Ming International Holdings's EBIT margins were flat over the last year, revenue grew by a solid 22% to CN¥42b. That's progress.

While profitability drives the upside, prudent investors always check the balance sheet, too.
Are Da Ming International Holdings Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
As a general rule, I think it worth considering how much the CEO is paid, since unreasonably high rates could be considered against the interests of shareholders. For companies with market capitalizations between CN¥1.3b and CN¥5.1b, like Da Ming International Holdings, the median CEO pay is around CN¥2.5m.
Da Ming International Holdings offered total compensation worth CN¥1.3m to its CEO in the year to . That seems pretty reasonable, especially given its below the median for similar sized companies. CEO remuneration levels are not the most important metric for investors, but when the pay is modest, that does support enhanced alignment between the CEO and the ordinary shareholders. I'd also argue reasonable pay levels attest to good decision making more generally.
Should You Add Da Ming International Holdings To Your Watchlist?
Da Ming International Holdings's earnings have taken off like any random crypto-currency did, back in 2017. Such fast EPS growth makes me wonder if the business has hit an inflection point (and I mean the good kind.) Meanwhile, the very reasonable CEO pay reassures me a little, since it points to an absence profligacy. While I couldn't be sure without a deeper dive, it does seem that Da Ming International Holdings has the hallmarks of a quality business; and that would make it well worth watching. It is worth noting though that we have found 2 warning signs for Da Ming International Holdings (1 is concerning!) that you need to take into consideration.
