How Many China Sinostar Group Company Limited (HKG:485) Shares Have Insiders Sold, In The Last Year?
It is not uncommon to see companies perform well in the years after insiders buy shares. Unfortunately, there are also plenty of examples of share prices declining precipitously after insiders have sold shares. So we'll take a look at whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in China Sinostar Group Company Limited (HKG:485).
What Is Insider Selling?
It's quite normal to see company insiders, such as board members, trading in company stock, from time to time. However, most countries require that the company discloses such transactions to the market.
We would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing. But it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing. For example, a Columbia University study found that 'insiders are more likely to engage in open market purchases of their own company’s stock when the firm is about to reveal new agreements with customers and suppliers'.

China Sinostar Group Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the insider, Xue Feng Chu, for HK$3.1m worth of shares, at about HK$0.22 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (HK$0.23). When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. It is worth noting that this sale was 100% of Xue Feng Chu's holding. Xue Feng Chu was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Does China Sinostar Group Boast High Insider Ownership?
For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. From what we can see in our data, insiders own only about HK$97k worth of China Sinostar Group shares. But they may have an indirect interest through a corporate structure that we haven't picked up on. This level of insider ownership is notably low, and not very encouraging.
So What Do The China Sinostar Group Insider Transactions Indicate?
It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded China Sinostar Group shares in the last quarter. We don't take much encouragement from the transactions by China Sinostar Group insiders. And we're not picking up on high enough insider ownership to give us any comfort. While we like knowing what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.
