Shareholders in Haitian International Holdings Limited (HKG:1882) may be thrilled to learn that the analysts have just delivered a major upgrade to their near-term forecasts. The analysts greatly increased their revenue estimates, suggesting a stark improvement in business fundamentals.

After this upgrade, Haitian International Holdings' ten analysts are now forecasting revenues of CN¥16b in 2021. This would be a solid 9.2% improvement in sales compared to the last 12 months. Per-share earnings are expected to rise 6.1% to CN¥1.96. Previously, the analysts had been modelling revenues of CN¥14b and earnings per share (EPS) of CN¥1.74 in 2021. So we can see there's been a pretty clear increase in analyst sentiment in recent times, with both revenues and earnings per share receiving a decent lift in the latest estimates.

It will come as no surprise to learn that the analysts have increased their price target for Haitian International Holdings 8.7% to CN¥31.18 on the back of these upgrades. There's another way to think about price targets though, and that's to look at the range of price targets put forward by analysts, because a wide range of estimates could suggest a diverse view on possible outcomes for the business. There are some variant perceptions on Haitian International Holdings, with the most bullish analyst valuing it at CN¥43.38 and the most bearish at CN¥26.12 per share. This shows there is still some diversity in estimates, but analysts don't appear to be totally split on the stock as though it might be a success or failure situation.

Of course, another way to look at these forecasts is to place them into context against the industry itself. The analysts are definitely expecting Haitian International Holdings' growth to accelerate, with the forecast 19% annualised growth to the end of 2021 ranking favourably alongside historical growth of 8.6% per annum over the past five years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in a similar industry are forecast to grow their revenue at 11% per year. It seems obvious that, while the growth outlook is brighter than the recent past, the analysts also expect Haitian International Holdings to grow faster than the wider industry.

The Bottom Line

The biggest takeaway for us from these new estimates is that analysts upgraded their earnings per share estimates, with improved earnings power expected for this year. They also upgraded their revenue estimates for this year, and sales are expected to grow faster than the wider market. Given that the consensus looks almost universally bullish, with a substantial increase to forecasts and a higher price target, Haitian International Holdings could be worth investigating further.

Still, the long-term prospects of the business are much more relevant than next year's earnings. At Simply Wall St, we have a full range of analyst estimates for Haitian International Holdings going out to 2023, and you can see them free on our platform here..
