System1 Group (LON:SYS1) Is Increasing Its Dividend To £0.11

System1 Group PLC's (LON:SYS1) dividend will be increasing from last year's payment of the same period to £0.11 on 17th of October. This takes the annual payment to 1.3% of the current stock price, which unfortunately is below what the industry is paying.

System1 Group's Projected Earnings Seem Likely To Cover Future Distributions

Even a low dividend yield can be attractive if it is sustained for years on end. Before making this announcement, System1 Group was easily earning enough to cover the dividend. As a result, a large proportion of what it earned was being reinvested back into the business.

Looking forward, earnings per share could rise by 42.2% over the next year if the trend from the last few years continues. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 22% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.

Dividend Volatility

While the company has been paying a dividend for a long time, it has cut the dividend at least once in the last 10 years. The dividend has gone from an annual total of £0.04 in 2015 to the most recent total annual payment of £0.055. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 3.2% a year over that time. We're glad to see the dividend has risen, but with a limited rate of growth and fluctuations in the payments the total shareholder return may be limited.

The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow

Given that the dividend has been cut in the past, we need to check if earnings are growing and if that might lead to stronger dividends in the future. System1 Group has impressed us by growing EPS at 42% per year over the past five years. Earnings have been growing rapidly, and with a low payout ratio we think that the company could turn out to be a great dividend stock.

We Really Like System1 Group's Dividend

In summary, it is always positive to see the dividend being increased, and we are particularly pleased with its overall sustainability. The company is easily earning enough to cover its dividend payments and it is great to see that these earnings are being translated into cash flow. Taking this all into consideration, this looks like it could be a good dividend opportunity.

Market movements attest to how highly valued a consistent dividend policy is compared to one which is more unpredictable. Still, investors need to consider a host of other factors, apart from dividend payments, when analysing a company. For instance, we've picked out 1 warning sign for System1 Group that investors should take into consideration. Looking for more high-yielding dividend ideas?
