Medica Group's (LON:MGP) Upcoming Dividend Will Be Larger Than Last Year's
Medica Group Plc's (LON:MGP) periodic dividend will be increasing on the 21st of July to £0.0188, with investors receiving 5.0% more than last year's £0.0179. This will take the annual payment to 1.8% of the stock price, which is above what most companies in the industry pay.

Medica Group's Earnings Easily Cover The Distributions
If the payments aren't sustainable, a high yield for a few years won't matter that much. The last dividend was quite easily covered by Medica Group's earnings. This indicates that a lot of the earnings are being reinvested into the business, with the aim of fueling growth.
Looking forward, earnings per share is forecast to rise by 81.9% over the next year. If the dividend continues along recent trends, we estimate the payout ratio will be 31%, which is in the range that makes us comfortable with the sustainability of the dividend.
Medica Group's Dividend Has Lacked Consistency
It's comforting to see that Medica Group has been paying a dividend for a number of years now, however it has been cut at least once in that time. Due to this, we are a little bit cautious about the dividend consistency over a full economic cycle. Since 2018, the dividend has gone from £0.011 total annually to £0.0281. This means that it has been growing its distributions at 21% per annum over that time. Dividends have grown rapidly over this time, but with cuts in the past we are not certain that this stock will be a reliable source of income in the future.
We Could See Medica Group's Dividend Growing
Given that the dividend has been cut in the past, we need to check if earnings are growing and if that might lead to stronger dividends in the future. It's encouraging to see that Medica Group has been growing its earnings per share at 8.1% a year over the past five years. Earnings are on the uptrend, and it is only paying a small portion of those earnings to shareholders.
We Really Like Medica Group's Dividend
Overall, a dividend increase is always good, and we think that Medica Group is a strong income stock thanks to its track record and growing earnings. Distributions are quite easily covered by earnings, which are also being converted to cash flows. Taking this all into consideration, this looks like it could be a good dividend opportunity.
It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one. At the same time, there are other factors our readers should be conscious of before pouring capital into a stock. Companies that are growing earnings tend to be the best dividend stocks over the long term.
