Insiders who acquired UK£207k worth of IG Group Holdings plc's (LON:IGG) stock at an average price of UK£7.11 in the past 12 months may be dismayed by the recent 15% price decline. This is not good as insiders invest based on expectations that their money will appreciate over time. However, as a result of recent losses, their original investment is now worth only UK£196k.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

IG Group Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Notably, that recent purchase by June Felix is the biggest insider purchase of IG Group Holdings shares that we've seen in the last year. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of UK£6.74. It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when insiders have purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price.
