Renew Holdings (LON:RNWH) Is Increasing Its Dividend To £0.1333

Renew Holdings plc (LON:RNWH) has announced that it will be increasing its periodic dividend on the 20th of March to £0.1333, which will be 5.2% higher than last year's comparable payment amount of £0.127. Even though the dividend went up, the yield is still quite low at only 2.1%.

Renew Holdings' Projected Earnings Seem Likely To Cover Future Distributions

While yield is important, another factor to consider about a company's dividend is whether the current payout levels are feasible. Before making this announcement, Renew Holdings was easily earning enough to cover the dividend. This means that most of its earnings are being retained to grow the business.

Over the next year, EPS is forecast to expand by 29.4%. If the dividend continues along recent trends, we estimate the payout ratio will be 31%, which is in the range that makes us comfortable with the sustainability of the dividend.

Dividend Volatility

The company's dividend history has been marked by instability, with at least one cut in the last 10 years. Since 2015, the dividend has gone from £0.05 total annually to £0.193. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 14% a year over that time. Renew Holdings has grown distributions at a rapid rate despite cutting the dividend at least once in the past. Companies that cut once often cut again, so we would be cautious about buying this stock solely for the dividend income.

The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow

Growing earnings per share could be a mitigating factor when considering the past fluctuations in the dividend. It's encouraging to see that Renew Holdings has been growing its earnings per share at 11% a year over the past five years. With a decent amount of growth and a low payout ratio, we think this bodes well for Renew Holdings' prospects of growing its dividend payments in the future.

We Really Like Renew Holdings' Dividend

Overall, we think this could be an attractive income stock, and it is only getting better by paying a higher dividend this year. The company is easily earning enough to cover its dividend payments and it is great to see that these earnings are being translated into cash flow. Taking this all into consideration, this looks like it could be a good dividend opportunity.

Investors generally tend to favour companies with a consistent, stable dividend policy as opposed to those operating an irregular one. Still, investors need to consider a host of other factors, apart from dividend payments, when analysing a company. Earnings growth generally bodes well for the future value of company dividend payments.
