Rubis (EPA:RUI) Will Pay A Larger Dividend Than Last Year At €1.98
Rubis (EPA:RUI) has announced that it will be increasing its dividend from last year's comparable payment on the 18th of June to €1.98. This takes the dividend yield to 6.3%, which shareholders will be pleased with.
While the dividend yield is important for income investors, it is also important to consider any large share price moves, as this will generally outweigh any gains from distributions. Investors will be pleased to see that Rubis' stock price has increased by 35% in the last 3 months, which is good for shareholders and can also explain a decrease in the dividend yield.

Rubis' Earnings Easily Cover The Distributions
Impressive dividend yields are good, but this doesn't matter much if the payments can't be sustained. Prior to this announcement, Rubis' dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. This indicates that quite a large proportion of earnings is being invested back into the business.
Over the next year, EPS is forecast to expand by 12.3%. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 55% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.
Rubis Has A Solid Track Record
The company has been paying a dividend for a long time, and it has been quite stable which gives us confidence in the future dividend potential. Since 2014, the annual payment back then was €0.975, compared to the most recent full-year payment of €1.98. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 7.3% a year over that time. Dividends have grown at a reasonable rate over this period, and without any major cuts in the payment over time, we think this is an attractive combination as it provides a nice boost to shareholder returns.
Rubis Could Grow Its Dividend
The company's investors will be pleased to have been receiving dividend income for some time. Rubis has impressed us by growing EPS at 8.1% per year over the past five years. The company is paying a reasonable amount of earnings to shareholders, and is growing earnings at a decent rate so we think it could be a decent dividend stock.
We Really Like Rubis' Dividend
In summary, it is always positive to see the dividend being increased, and we are particularly pleased with its overall sustainability. Distributions are quite easily covered by earnings, which are also being converted to cash flows. All in all, this checks a lot of the boxes we look for when choosing an income stock.
It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one.
