Aeroports de Paris' (EPA:ADP) Stock Price Has Reduced 39% In The Past Year
While not a mind-blowing move, it is good to see that the Aeroports de Paris SA (EPA:ADP) share price has gained 22% in the last three months. But that doesn't change the fact that the returns over the last year have been less than pleasing. In fact, the price has declined 39% in a year, falling short of the returns you could get by investing in an index fund.

While markets are a powerful pricing mechanism, share prices reflect investor sentiment, not just underlying business performance. By comparing earnings per share (EPS) and share price changes over time, we can get a feel for how investor attitudes to a company have morphed over time.
During the last year Aeroports de Paris saw its earnings per share drop below zero. While this may prove temporary, we'd consider it a negative, so it doesn't surprise us that the stock price is down. However, there may be an opportunity for investors if the company can recover.

It's probably worth noting that the CEO is paid less than the median at similar sized companies. But while CEO remuneration is always worth checking, the really important question is whether the company can grow earnings going forward. A Different Perspective
While the broader market lost about 1.8% in the twelve months, Aeroports de Paris shareholders did even worse, losing 39% (even including dividends). However, it could simply be that the share price has been impacted by broader market jitters. It might be worth keeping an eye on the fundamentals, in case there's a good opportunity. Longer term investors wouldn't be so upset, since they would have made 2%, each year, over five years. It could be that the recent sell-off is an opportunity, so it may be worth checking the fundamental data for signs of a long term growth trend. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too.
