Kerlink SA (EPA:ALKLK) Stock Rockets 38% But Many Are Still Ignoring The Company

The Kerlink SA (EPA:ALKLK) share price has done very well over the last month, posting an excellent gain of 38%. Notwithstanding the latest gain, the annual share price return of 4.5% isn't as impressive.

In spite of the firm bounce in price, it's still not a stretch to say that Kerlink's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.5x right now seems quite "middle-of-the-road" compared to the Communications industry in France, where the median P/S ratio is around 0.9x. Although, it's not wise to simply ignore the P/S without explanation as investors may be disregarding a distinct opportunity or a costly mistake.

How Has Kerlink Performed Recently?

While the industry has experienced revenue growth lately, Kerlink's revenue has gone into reverse gear, which is not great. It might be that many expect the dour revenue performance to strengthen positively, which has kept the P/S from falling. If not, then existing shareholders may be a little nervous about the viability of the share price.

Keen to find out how analysts think Kerlink's future stacks up against the industry? In that case, our free report is a great place to start.

Do Revenue Forecasts Match The P/S Ratio?

In order to justify its P/S ratio, Kerlink would need to produce growth that's similar to the industry.

Retrospectively, the last year delivered a frustrating 15% decrease to the company's top line. As a result, revenue from three years ago have also fallen 41% overall. So unfortunately, we have to acknowledge that the company has not done a great job of growing revenue over that time.

Looking ahead now, revenue is anticipated to climb by 26% per year during the coming three years according to the lone analyst following the company. Meanwhile, the rest of the industry is forecast to only expand by 3.2% each year, which is noticeably less attractive.

With this information, we find it interesting that Kerlink is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. It may be that most investors aren't convinced the company can achieve future growth expectations.

What We Can Learn From Kerlink's P/S?

Kerlink's stock has a lot of momentum behind it lately, which has brought its P/S level with the rest of the industry. Typically, we'd caution against reading too much into price-to-sales ratios when settling on investment decisions, though it can reveal plenty about what other market participants think about the company.

Despite enticing revenue growth figures that outpace the industry, Kerlink's P/S isn't quite what we'd expect. There could be some risks that the market is pricing in, which is preventing the P/S ratio from matching the positive outlook. However, if you agree with the analysts' forecasts, you may be able to pick up the stock at an attractive price.
