TFF Group (EPA:TFF) Has More To Do To Multiply In Value Going Forward

If we want to find a stock that could multiply over the long term, what are the underlying trends we should look for? Ideally, a business will show two trends; firstly a growing return on capital employed (ROCE) and secondly, an increasing amount of capital employed. Put simply, these types of businesses are compounding machines, meaning they are continually reinvesting their earnings at ever-higher rates of return. In light of that, when we looked at TFF Group (EPA:TFF) and its ROCE trend, we weren't exactly thrilled.

Return On Capital Employed (ROCE): What Is It?

For those that aren't sure what ROCE is, it measures the amount of pre-tax profits a company can generate from the capital employed in its business. Analysts use this formula to calculate it for TFF Group:

Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)

0.088 = €60m ÷ (€995m - €311m) (Based on the trailing twelve months to April 2025).

So, TFF Group has an ROCE of 8.8%. On its own, that's a low figure but it's around the 9.8% average generated by the Packaging industry.

What Does the ROCE Trend For TFF Group Tell Us?

In terms of TFF Group's historical ROCE trend, it doesn't exactly demand attention. The company has consistently earned 8.8% for the last five years, and the capital employed within the business has risen 61% in that time. This poor ROCE doesn't inspire confidence right now, and with the increase in capital employed, it's evident that the business isn't deploying the funds into high return investments.

Our Take On TFF Group's ROCE

Long story short, while TFF Group has been reinvesting its capital, the returns that it's generating haven't increased. Since the stock has declined 18% over the last five years, investors may not be too optimistic on this trend improving either. All in all, the inherent trends aren't typical of multi-baggers, so if that's what you're after, we think you might have more luck elsewhere.

Since virtually every company faces some risks, it's worth knowing what they are, and we've spotted 3 warning signs for TFF Group (of which 1 is a bit concerning!) that you should know about.
