Dovre Group Plc (HEL:DOV1V) Shares Slammed 27% But Getting In Cheap Might Be Difficult Regardless

Dovre Group Plc (HEL:DOV1V) shareholders that were waiting for something to happen have been dealt a blow with a 27% share price drop in the last month. The drop over the last 30 days has capped off a tough year for shareholders, with the share price down 43% in that time.

Although its price has dipped substantially, there still wouldn't be many who think Dovre Group's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.1x is worth a mention when the median P/S in Finland's Professional Services industry is similar at about 0.6x. Although, it's not wise to simply ignore the P/S without explanation as investors may be disregarding a distinct opportunity or a costly mistake.

What Does Dovre Group's Recent Performance Look Like?

Dovre Group could be doing better as its revenue has been going backwards lately while most other companies have been seeing positive revenue growth. One possibility is that the P/S ratio is moderate because investors think this poor revenue performance will turn around. You'd really hope so, otherwise you're paying a relatively elevated price for a company with this sort of growth profile.

Do Revenue Forecasts Match The P/S Ratio?

There's an inherent assumption that a company should be matching the industry for P/S ratios like Dovre Group's to be considered reasonable.

Retrospectively, the last year delivered a frustrating 2.1% decrease to the company's top line. Still, the latest three year period has seen an excellent 123% overall rise in revenue, in spite of its unsatisfying short-term performance. Accordingly, while they would have preferred to keep the run going, shareholders would definitely welcome the medium-term rates of revenue growth.

Turning to the outlook, the next three years should generate growth of 5.5% each year as estimated by the one analyst watching the company. With the industry predicted to deliver 5.1% growth each year, the company is positioned for a comparable revenue result.

With this in mind, it makes sense that Dovre Group's P/S is closely matching its industry peers. Apparently shareholders are comfortable to simply hold on while the company is keeping a low profile.

The Final Word

Dovre Group's plummeting stock price has brought its P/S back to a similar region as the rest of the industry. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.

Our look at Dovre Group's revenue growth estimates show that its P/S is about what we expect, as both metrics follow closely with the industry averages. Right now shareholders are comfortable with the P/S as they are quite confident future revenue won't throw up any surprises. If all things remain constant, the possibility of a drastic share price movement remains fairly remote.
