These 4 Measures Indicate That Neinor Homes (BME:HOME) Is Using Debt Reasonably Well

When Is Debt A Problem?

Debt and other liabilities become risky for a business when it cannot easily fulfill those obligations, either with free cash flow or by raising capital at an attractive price. If things get really bad, the lenders can take control of the business. A Look At Neinor Homes' Liabilities

Zooming in on the latest balance sheet data, we can see that Neinor Homes had liabilities of €493.7m due within 12 months and liabilities of €209.1m due beyond that. Offsetting this, it had €233.1m in cash and €95.1m in receivables that were due within 12 months. So it has liabilities totalling €374.6m more than its cash and near-term receivables, combined.

Neinor Homes has a market capitalization of €1.18b, so it could very likely raise cash to ameliorate its balance sheet, if the need arose. However, it is still worthwhile taking a close look at its ability to pay off debt.

And the good news does not stop there, as its conversion of EBIT to free cash flow also supports that impression! Zooming out, Neinor Homes seems to use debt quite reasonably; and that gets the nod from us. While debt does bring risk, when used wisely it can also bring a higher return on equity.
