Some Tele Columbus AG (HMSE:TC1) Shareholders Look For Exit As Shares Take 27% Pounding

Tele Columbus AG (HMSE:TC1) shareholders won't be pleased to see that the share price has had a very rough month, dropping 27% and undoing the prior period's positive performance. The drop over the last 30 days has capped off a tough year for shareholders, with the share price down 24% in that time.

Although its price has dipped substantially, it's still not a stretch to say that Tele Columbus' price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.3x right now seems quite "middle-of-the-road" compared to the Media industry in Germany, where the median P/S ratio is around 0.7x. Although, it's not wise to simply ignore the P/S without explanation as investors may be disregarding a distinct opportunity or a costly mistake.

How Has Tele Columbus Performed Recently?

Tele Columbus certainly has been doing a good job lately as it's been growing revenue more than most other companies. One possibility is that the P/S ratio is moderate because investors think this strong revenue performance might be about to tail off. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's not quite in favour.

Keen to find out how analysts think Tele Columbus' future stacks up against the industry? In that case, our free report is a great place to start.

How Is Tele Columbus' Revenue Growth Trending?

In order to justify its P/S ratio, Tele Columbus would need to produce growth that's similar to the industry.

Taking a look back first, we see that the company managed to grow revenues by a handy 3.3% last year. However, this wasn't enough as the latest three year period has seen an unpleasant 3.6% overall drop in revenue. So unfortunately, we have to acknowledge that the company has not done a great job of growing revenue over that time.

Shifting to the future, estimates from the only analyst covering the company suggest revenue should grow by 0.1% per year over the next three years. With the industry predicted to deliver 5.8% growth per annum, the company is positioned for a weaker revenue result.

With this information, we find it interesting that Tele Columbus is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. It seems most investors are ignoring the fairly limited growth expectations and are willing to pay up for exposure to the stock. Maintaining these prices will be difficult to achieve as this level of revenue growth is likely to weigh down the shares eventually.

The Bottom Line On Tele Columbus' P/S

Tele Columbus' plummeting stock price has brought its P/S back to a similar region as the rest of the industry. Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.

Our look at the analysts forecasts of Tele Columbus' revenue prospects has shown that its inferior revenue outlook isn't negatively impacting its P/S as much as we would have predicted. At present, we aren't confident in the P/S as the predicted future revenues aren't likely to support a more positive sentiment for long. Circumstances like this present a risk to current and prospective investors who may see share prices fall if the low revenue growth impacts the sentiment.

Don't forget that there may be other risks. For instance, we've identified 2 warning signs for Tele Columbus (1 is a bit concerning) you should be aware of.
