If You Like EPS Growth Then Check Out Scout24 (ETR:G24) Before It's Too Late
For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it completely lacks a track record of revenue and profit. But the reality is that when a company loses money each year, for long enough, its investors will usually take their share of those losses.
So if you're like me, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Scout24 (ETR:G24). Even if the shares are fully valued today, most capitalists would recognize its profits as the demonstration of steady value generation. In comparison, loss making companies act like a sponge for capital - but unlike such a sponge they do not always produce something when squeezed.

Scout24's Improving Profits
Even modest earnings per share growth (EPS) can create meaningful value, when it is sustained reliably from year to year. So it's no surprise that some investors are more inclined to invest in profitable businesses. Like a wedge-tailed eagle on the wind, Scout24's EPS soared from €0.83 to €1.26, in just one year. That's a impressive gain of 53%.
I like to take a look at earnings before interest and (EBIT) tax margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. While we note Scout24's EBIT margins were flat over the last year, revenue grew by a solid 8.4% to €404m. That's progress.

Are Scout24 Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
We would not expect to see insiders owning a large percentage of a €5.2b company like Scout24. But we do take comfort from the fact that they are investors in the company. Notably, they have an enormous stake in the company, worth €457m. I would find that kind of skin in the game quite encouraging, if I owned shares, since it would ensure that the leaders of the company would also experience my success, or failure, with the stock.
It's good to see that insiders are invested in the company, but are remuneration levels reasonable? A brief analysis of the CEO compensation suggests they are. For companies with market capitalizations between €3.5b and €11b, like Scout24, the median CEO pay is around €2.2m.
The CEO of Scout24 only received €1.1m in total compensation for the year ending . That's clearly well below average, so at a glance, that arrangement seems generous to shareholders, and points to a modest remuneration culture. CEO compensation is hardly the most important aspect of a company to consider, but when its reasonable that does give me a little more confidence that leadership are looking out for shareholder interests. I'd also argue reasonable pay levels attest to good decision making more generally.
Does Scout24 Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?
You can't deny that Scout24 has grown its earnings per share at a very impressive rate. That's attractive. If you need more convincing beyond that EPS growth rate, don't forget about the reasonable remuneration and the high insider ownership. This may only be a fast rundown, but the takeaway for me is that Scout24 is worth keeping an eye on. It is worth noting though that we have found 1 warning sign for Scout24 that you need to take into consideration.
Although Scout24 certainly looks good to me, I would like it more if insiders were buying up shares. If you like to see insider buying, too, then this free list of growing companies that insiders are buying, could be exactly what you're looking for.
