Chase Science's (SZSE:300941) Shareholders Will Receive A Smaller Dividend Than Last Year
Chase Science Co., Ltd (SZSE:300941) is reducing its dividend from last year's comparable payment to CN¥0.14 on the 20th of June. This means that the dividend yield is 0.8%, which is a bit low when comparing to other companies in the industry.

Chase Science's Earnings Easily Cover The Distributions
It would be nice for the yield to be higher, but we should also check if higher levels of dividend payment would be sustainable. Before making this announcement, Chase Science was easily earning enough to cover the dividend. As a result, a large proportion of what it earned was being reinvested back into the business.
Unless the company can turn things around, EPS could fall by 9.7% over the next year. If the dividend continues along recent trends, we estimate the payout ratio could be 42%, which we consider to be quite comfortable, with most of the company's earnings left over to grow the business in the future.
Chase Science's Dividend Has Lacked Consistency
The track record isn't the longest, but we are already seeing a bit of instability in the payments. The dividend has gone from an annual total of CN¥0.20 in 2021 to the most recent total annual payment of CN¥0.14. This works out to a decline of approximately 30% over that time. Generally, we don't like to see a dividend that has been declining over time as this can degrade shareholders' returns and indicate that the company may be running into problems.
Dividend Growth May Be Hard To Come By
Given that dividend payments have been shrinking like a glacier in a warming world, we need to check if there are some bright spots on the horizon. It's not great to see that Chase Science's earnings per share has fallen at approximately 9.7% per year over the past five years. If the company is making less over time, it naturally follows that it will also have to pay out less in dividends.
Our Thoughts On Chase Science's Dividend
Overall, the dividend looks like it may have been a bit high, which explains why it has now been cut. In the past, the payments have been unstable, but over the short term the dividend could be reliable, with the company generating enough cash to cover it. This company is not in the top tier of income providing stocks.
It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one.
