Dongrui Food Group Co., Ltd. (SZSE:001201) shareholders are no doubt pleased to see that the share price has bounced 26% in the last month, although it is still struggling to make up recently lost ground. Unfortunately, the gains of the last month did little to right the losses of the last year with the stock still down 24% over that time.

Following the firm bounce in price, when almost half of the companies in China's Food industry have price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") below 1.8x, you may consider Dongrui Food Group as a stock not worth researching with its 4.7x P/S ratio. However, the P/S might be quite high for a reason and it requires further investigation to determine if it's justified.

How Has Dongrui Food Group Performed Recently?

With revenue growth that's superior to most other companies of late, Dongrui Food Group has been doing relatively well. It seems the market expects this form will continue into the future, hence the elevated P/S ratio. If not, then existing shareholders might be a little nervous about the viability of the share price.

Keen to find out how analysts think Dongrui Food Group's future stacks up against the industry? In that case, our free report is a great place to start.

Do Revenue Forecasts Match The High P/S Ratio?

In order to justify its P/S ratio, Dongrui Food Group would need to produce outstanding growth that's well in excess of the industry.

Retrospectively, the last year delivered an exceptional 21% gain to the company's top line. Still, revenue has fallen 11% in total from three years ago, which is quite disappointing. So unfortunately, we have to acknowledge that the company has not done a great job of growing revenues over that time.

Shifting to the future, estimates from the dual analysts covering the company suggest revenue should grow by 138% over the next year. With the industry only predicted to deliver 16%, the company is positioned for a stronger revenue result.

In light of this, it's understandable that Dongrui Food Group's P/S sits above the majority of other companies. It seems most investors are expecting this strong future growth and are willing to pay more for the stock.

The Bottom Line On Dongrui Food Group's P/S

Dongrui Food Group's P/S has grown nicely over the last month thanks to a handy boost in the share price. It's argued the price-to-sales ratio is an inferior measure of value within certain industries, but it can be a powerful business sentiment indicator.

We've established that Dongrui Food Group maintains its high P/S on the strength of its forecasted revenue growth being higher than the the rest of the Food industry, as expected. Right now shareholders are comfortable with the P/S as they are quite confident future revenues aren't under threat. Unless these conditions change, they will continue to provide strong support to the share price.
