Even if it's not a huge purchase, we think it was good to see that Michael Santoro, the Independent Director of Comet Industries Ltd. (CVE:CMU) recently shelled out CA$72k to buy stock, at CA$3.61 per share. That purchase might not be huge but it did increase their holding by 31%.
Comet Industries Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
Notably, that recent purchase by Michael Santoro is the biggest insider purchase of Comet Industries shares that we've seen in the last year. That means that even when the share price was higher than CA$3.45 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when insiders have purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price.
While Comet Industries insiders bought shares during the last year, they didn't sell. Insider Ownership Of Comet Industries
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Comet Industries insiders own 43% of the company, currently worth about CA$7.1m based on the recent share price. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
So What Does This Data Suggest About Comet Industries Insiders?
It is good to see recent purchasing. And the longer term insider transactions also give us confidence. But on the other hand, the company made a loss during the last year, which makes us a little cautious. Once you factor in the high insider ownership, it certainly seems like insiders are positive about Comet Industries. Nice! While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. Be aware that Comet Industries is showing 3 warning signs in our investment analysis, and 2 of those are a bit unpleasant...
