Questerre Energy Corporation Temporarily Halts Operations At Px Energy Oil Shale Processing Facility in Southern Brazil Questerre Energy Corporation announced that its PX Energy oil shale processing facility in southern Brazil has been temporarily shut down for emergency corrective maintenance. This follows a critical pipe failure in the furnace that supplies heat to the main processing facility. Operations personnel initiated the shutdown promptly to limit any further impact to equipment. No injuries resulted from the incident and no damage was sustained to the main processing facility. The shutdown is currently estimated to last approximately three to four weeks. During this time, the facility will be offline, resulting in lost production and revenue for the period. The Company estimates the direct cost of the corrective work at approximately CAD 1.5 million. The Company plans to use the shutdown to carry out additional maintenance work to increase production. This work is designed to improve the inefficiencies at the main processing facility that developed following the previous scheduled plant turnaround in 2025. The Company anticipates completing this work now should improve operating efficiency and support higher production rates once the facility returns to service. The Company still expects to proceed with its next scheduled plant turnaround in May 2027, as several of the components to be replaced at that time require long lead times and will not be available until next year. Questerre Energy Corporation Reports Successful Test of HCCO Technology in Commercial-Sized Vessel At PX Energy Questerre Energy Corporation reported successful results from a recent test of its HCCO oil shale technology. The test was carried out at the PX Energy facility in southern Brazil. For the first time, the technology was tested in a full commercial-sized vessel, rather than the smaller lab-scale reactors used previously. The test is an important step aimed at improving the efficiency, reducing the cost, and improving the economics of the PX Energy project — and ultimately commercializing greenfield oil shale projects. This test was designed to prove the engineering and technical validity of the Company’s patented HCCO process at commercial scale — and it succeeded. The next step is a longer test with a different purpose - to define the commercial operating parameters needed to run the process continuously. Based on the results to date, the Company plans to implement the technology commercially at the PX Energy facility to reduce the facility’s internal fuel oil consumption and strengthen the economics of the PX Energy project. Questerre Energy Corporation Updates Kakwa Development and Files Expert Report for Legal Action in Québec Questerre Energy Corporation reported on the upcoming drilling program at Kakwa North. The Company plans to participate in three (1.5 net) wells proposed by the operator at an estimated cost of $21 million net to Questerre. Subject to equipment availability, the wells are scheduled to spud early in the fourth quarter. Completion operations are planned for the first quarter of next year. Questerre holds a 50% interest in these wells. Questerre also reported that the three (0.75 net) new wells on its Kakwa Central acreage were tied in earlier last month. Gross production from these wells over the last month is approximately 2,755 boe/d consisting of 6.8 MMcf/d of natural gas and 1,625 bbl/d of condensate and natural gas liquids. The Company holds a 25% interest in these wells. While the initial rates are encouraging, they are not indicative of the long-term performance or ultimate recovery. Questerre also reported that it has filed with the QuébecSuperior Court (Civil Division) (the “Court”) an independent expert report (the “Report”) that quantifies the economic losses that may be incurred by the Company should its licenses to explore for oil and gas be successfully revoked by the Government of Québec. The independent expert was retained by the Company’s litigation counsel on behalf of the Company to prepare the Report. The Report was prepared in connection with the legal action to assist the Court. It is solely for use by Questerre in the legal action. The Report was prepared in accordance with the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators (“CICBV”) requirements for both a Comprehensive Valuation Report and an Expert Report as defined in the CICBV Practice Standards. Based on the scope, and subject to the restrictions, qualifications, and major assumptions, under various scenarios, all of which are set out in the Report, potential economic losses range from approximately $700 million to $4,800 million. Questerre Energy Corporation Reports on Uinta Basin Railway Progress Questerre Energy Corporation reported on the planned Uinta Basin Railway that will serve the Uinta Basin in Utah including the acreage held by Red Leaf Resources Inc. its investee company. Questerre currently holds a 40% equity interest in Red Leaf. The Uinta Basin railway is reported to be the first major freight rail project built in the United States in the last 30 years. It is expected to improve access for waxy oil production in the basin to more lucrative markets on the US Gulf Coast. Subject to a final investment decision, construction of the approximately 90-mile railway could commence as early as next year and be operational within two years. Earlier this month, the US Forest Service approved the final right of way. The recent approval is for the Whitmore Park route proposed by the railway that includes a proposed terminus on a 7,000-acre parcel of land held by Red Leaf. Red Leaf acquired this acreage earlier this year as part of a settlement for a $50 million secured note including principal and interest. The Red Leaf acreage is also permitted by the state of Utah for a 44,000 barrel per day refinery that would upgrade the waxy oil to more valuable products including feedstock for lubricants. Red Leaf is in discussions with local stakeholders for a rail loading facility that would move crude oil from tanker trucks to rail cars that could also serve as the first stage of the larger refinery project.
