I Ran A Stock Scan For Earnings Growth And Solution Financial (CVE:SFI) Passed With Ease
Like a puppy chasing its tail, some new investors often chase 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without revenue, let alone profit. But the reality is that when a company loses money each year, for long enough, its investors will usually take their share of those losses.
If, on the other hand, you like companies that have revenue, and even earn profits, then you may well be interested in Solution Financial (CVE:SFI). Even if the shares are fully valued today, most capitalists would recognize its profits as the demonstration of steady value generation. In comparison, loss making companies act like a sponge for capital - but unlike such a sponge they do not always produce something when squeezed.

How Fast Is Solution Financial Growing Its Earnings Per Share?
Over the last three years, Solution Financial has grown earnings per share (EPS) like young bamboo after rain; fast, and from a low base. So I don't think the percent growth rate is particularly meaningful. Thus, it makes sense to focus on more recent growth rates, instead. Like a wedge-tailed eagle on the wind, Solution Financial's EPS soared from CA$0.0032 to CA$0.0052, in just one year. That's a impressive gain of 66%.
I like to take a look at earnings before interest and (EBIT) tax margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. I note that Solution Financial's revenue from operations was lower than its revenue in the last twelve months, so that could distort my analysis of its margins. While we note Solution Financial's EBIT margins were flat over the last year, revenue grew by a solid 45% to CA$15m. That's a real positive.
In the chart below, you can see how the company has grown earnings, and revenue, over time. Click on the chart to see the exact numbers.
Solution Financial isn't a huge company, given its market capitalization of CA$39m. That makes it extra important to check on its balance sheet strength.
Are Solution Financial Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
Personally, I like to see high insider ownership of a company, since it suggests that it will be managed in the interests of shareholders. So as you can imagine, the fact that Solution Financial insiders own a significant number of shares certainly appeals to me. In fact, they own 67% of the company, so they will share in the same delights and challenges experienced by the ordinary shareholders. To me this is a good sign because it suggests they will be incentivised to build value for shareholders over the long term. In terms of absolute value, insiders have CA$26m invested in the business, using the current share price. That's nothing to sneeze at!
Does Solution Financial Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?
Given my belief that share price follows earnings per share you can easily imagine how I feel about Solution Financial's strong EPS growth. I think that EPS growth is something to boast of, and it doesn't surprise me that insiders are holding on to a considerable chunk of shares. Fast growth and confident insiders should be enough to warrant further research. So the answer is that I do think this is a good stock to follow along with. It's still necessary to consider the ever-present spectre of investment risk. We've identified 3 warning signs with Solution Financial (at least 1 which is significant) , and understanding them should be part of your investment process.
Although Solution Financial certainly looks good to me, I would like it more if insiders were buying up shares. If you like to see insider buying, too, then this free list of growing companies that insiders are buying, could be exactly what you're looking for.
