The most you can lose on any stock (assuming you don't use leverage) is 100% of your money. But on the bright side, if you buy shares in a high quality company at the right price, you can gain well over 100%. For example, the Biomm S.A. (BVMF:BIOM3) share price has soared 173% in the last half decade. Most would be very happy with that. It's down 1.4% in the last seven days.

Biomm isn't currently profitable, so most analysts would look to revenue growth to get an idea of how fast the underlying business is growing. Generally speaking, companies without profits are expected to grow revenue every year, and at a good clip. That's because it's hard to be confident a company will be sustainable if revenue growth is negligible, and it never makes a profit.

What about the Total Shareholder Return (TSR)?

We'd be remiss not to mention the difference between Biomm's total shareholder return (TSR) and its share price return. The TSR attempts to capture the value of dividends (as if they were reinvested) as well as any spin-offs or discounted capital raisings offered to shareholders. We note that Biomm's TSR, at 185% is higher than its share price return of 173%. When you consider it hasn't been paying a dividend, this data suggests shareholders have benefitted from a spin-off, or had the opportunity to acquire attractively priced shares in a discounted capital raising.

A Different Perspective

We're pleased to report that Biomm shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 10% over one year. However, the TSR over five years, coming in at 23% per year, is even more impressive. The pessimistic view would be that be that the stock has its best days behind it, but on the other hand the price might simply be moderating while the business itself continues to execute. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important. Take risks, for example - Biomm has 3 warning signs (and 2 which shouldn't be ignored) we think you should know about.
