Insider Buying: Thomas Gorman Just Spent AU$52k On Sims Limited (ASX:SGM) Shares
Whilst it may not be a huge deal, we thought it was good to see that Thomas Gorman, who is a company insider, recently bought AU$52k worth of stock, for AU$13.11 per share. Although the purchase is not a big one, by either a percentage standpoint or absolute value, it can be seen as a good sign.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Sims
Notably, that recent purchase by Thomas Gorman is the biggest insider purchase of Sims shares that we've seen in the last year. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, at around the current price, which is AU$13.77. Of course they may have changed their mind. But this suggests they are optimistic. If someone buys shares at well below current prices, it's a good sign on balance, but keep in mind they may no longer see value. In this case we're pleased to report that the insider purchases were made at close to current prices.
In the last twelve months Sims insiders were buying shares, but not selling. The average buy price was around AU$10.80. To my mind it is good that insiders have invested their own money in the company. However, you should keep in mind that they bought when the share price was meaningfully below today's levels, which is around AU$13.77. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. Insider Ownership
For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Insiders own 0.4% of Sims shares, worth about AU$10m, according to our data. Overall, this level of ownership isn't that impressive, but it's certainly better than nothing!
What Might The Insider Transactions At Sims Tell Us?
The recent insider purchase is heartening. And the longer term insider transactions also give us confidence. However, we note that the company didn't make a profit over the last twelve months, which makes us cautious. Given that insiders also own a fair bit of Sims we think they are probably pretty confident of a bright future. If you are like me, you may want to think about whether this company will grow or shrink. Luckily, you can check this free report showing analyst forecasts for its future.
