Raiden Resources Limited (ASX:RDN) Insiders Increased Their Holdings

We've lost count of how many times insiders have accumulated shares in a company that goes on to improve markedly. The flip side of that is that there are more than a few examples of insiders dumping stock prior to a period of weak performance. So we'll take a look at whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Raiden Resources Limited (ASX:RDN).

What Is Insider Selling?

It is perfectly legal for company insiders, including board members, to buy and sell stock in a company. However, rules govern insider transactions, and certain disclosures are required.

We would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing. But equally, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether. As Peter Lynch said, 'insiders might sell their shares for any number of reasons, but they buy them for only one: they think the price will rise'.

Raiden Resources Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when MD & Director Dusko Ljubojevic bought AU$124k worth of shares at a price of AU$0.013 per share. We do like to see buying, but this purchase was made at well below the current price of AU$0.023. Because it occurred at a lower valuation, it doesn't tell us much about whether insiders might find today's price attractive.

Raiden Resources insiders may have bought shares in the last year, but they didn't sell any. The average buy price was around AU$0.0093. To my mind it is good that insiders have invested their own money in the company. However, you should keep in mind that they bought when the share price was meaningfully below today's levels. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It appears that Raiden Resources insiders own 36% of the company, worth about AU$7.5m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
