The recent 13% drop in Prospech Limited's (ASX:PRS) stock could come as a blow to insiders who purchased AU$303k worth of stock at an average buy price of AU$0.08 over the past 12 months. This is not good as insiders invest based on expectations that their money will appreciate over time. However, as a result of recent losses, their original investment is now worth only AU$79k.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Prospech

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Independent Non-Executive Director John Levings for AU$303k worth of shares, at about AU$0.08 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being AU$0.021). While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock when an insider has bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price. The only individual insider to buy over the last year was John Levings.
