DevEx Resources' Market Cap Drops To AU$66m Leaving Insiders With Losses
Insiders who acquired AU$5.63m worth of DevEx Resources Limited's (ASX:DEV) stock at an average price of AU$0.30 in the past 12 months may be dismayed by the recent 23% price decline. Insiders purchase with the hope of seeing their investments increase in value over time. However, due to recent losses, their initial investment is now only worth AU$2.85m, which is not great.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At DevEx Resources
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when insider Graham Kluck bought AU$2.2m worth of shares at a price of AU$0.33 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of AU$0.15. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when insiders have purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price.

Insider Ownership
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Insiders own 29% of DevEx Resources shares, worth about AU$19m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
