Insiders who bought AU$257.1k worth of Synertec Corporation Limited (ASX:SOP) stock in the last year recovered part of their losses as the stock rose by 11% last week. However, total losses seen by insiders are still AU$74k since the time of purchase.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Synertec
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Chairman Johannes Risseeuw bought AU$127k worth of shares at a price of AU$0.072 per share. That means that even when the share price was higher than AU$0.05 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.
Synertec insiders may have bought shares in the last year, but they didn't sell any. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Insiders At Synertec Have Bought Stock Recently
We saw some Synertec insider buying shares in the last three months. Chairman Johannes Risseeuw bought AU$24k worth of shares in that time. It's great to see that insiders are only buying, not selling. But the amount invested in the last three months isn't enough for us too put much weight on it, as a single factor.
Insider Ownership Of Synertec
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Our data indicates that Synertec insiders own about AU$2.6m worth of shares (which is 10% of the company). We do note, however, it is possible insiders have an indirect interest through a private company or other corporate structure. Overall, this level of ownership isn't that impressive, but it's certainly better than nothing!
So What Do The Synertec Insider Transactions Indicate?
Insider purchases may have been minimal, in the last three months, but there was no selling at all. Overall the buying isn't worth writing home about. On a brighter note, the transactions over the last year are encouraging. While we have no worries about the insider transactions, we'd be more comfortable if they owned more Synertec stock. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. Be aware that Synertec is showing 4 warning signs in our investment analysis, and 1 of those is a bit concerning...
