Possible Bearish Signals With Mader Group Insiders Disposing Stock
In the last year, many Mader Group Limited (ASX:MAD) insiders sold a substantial stake in the company which may have sparked shareholders' attention. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more beneficial than knowing whether they are selling, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.
Mader Group Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Non-Executive Director, Craig Burton, sold AU$6.6m worth of shares at a price of AU$6.76 per share. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of AU$6.73. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).
In the last twelve months insiders purchased 116.71k shares for AU$674k. On the other hand they divested 2.08m shares, for AU$13m. Over the last year we saw more insider selling of Mader Group shares, than buying. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. Insider Ownership
Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Mader Group insiders own about AU$960m worth of shares (which is 71% of the company). Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
What Might The Insider Transactions At Mader Group Tell Us?
It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded Mader Group shares in the last quarter. It's great to see high levels of insider ownership, but looking back over the last year, we don't gain confidence from the Mader Group insiders selling. Therefore, you should definitely take a look at this FREE report showing analyst forecasts for Mader Group.
