We wouldn't blame Mader Group Limited (ASX:MAD) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Luke Mader, the Founder & Executive Chairman recently netted about AU$61m selling shares at an average price of AU$6.15. However, that sale only accounted for 8.8% of their holding, so arguably it doesn't say much about their conviction.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Mader Group

In fact, the recent sale by Luke Mader was the biggest sale of Mader Group shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. That means that an insider was selling shares at below the current price (AU$6.25). As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. We note that the biggest single sale was only 8.8% of Luke Mader's holding.

Does Mader Group Boast High Insider Ownership?

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Mader Group insiders own 77% of the company, currently worth about AU$961m based on the recent share price. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
