Have Insiders Been Selling Cleanaway Waste Management Limited (ASX:CWY) Shares?
We often see insiders buying up shares in companies that perform well over the long term. The flip side of that is that there are more than a few examples of insiders dumping stock prior to a period of weak performance. So we'll take a look at whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Cleanaway Waste Management Limited (ASX:CWY).
What Is Insider Buying?
It's quite normal to see company insiders, such as board members, trading in company stock, from time to time. However, such insiders must disclose their trading activities, and not trade on inside information.
We would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing. But it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing. For example, a Harvard University study found that 'insider purchases earn abnormal returns of more than 6% per year'.

Cleanaway Waste Management Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the CEO, MD & Executive Director, Vikas Bansal, for AU$10.0m worth of shares, at about AU$2.50 per share. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of AU$2.43. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. We note that this sale took place at around the current price, so it isn't a major concern, though it's hardly a good sign. Vikas Bansal was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Whilst better than nothing, we're not overly impressed by these holdings.
