Did Clean TeQ Holdings Limited (ASX:CLQ) Insiders Buy Up More Shares?
We've lost count of how many times insiders have accumulated shares in a company that goes on to improve markedly. On the other hand, we'd be remiss not to mention that insider sales have been known to precede tough periods for a business. So shareholders might well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Clean TeQ Holdings Limited (ASX:CLQ).
What Is Insider Selling?
It is perfectly legal for company insiders, including board members, to buy and sell stock in a company. However, such insiders must disclose their trading activities, and not trade on inside information.
Insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing. But logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares. For example, a Columbia University study found that 'insiders are more likely to engage in open market purchases of their own company’s stock when the firm is about to reveal new agreements with customers and suppliers'.

Clean TeQ Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when MD, CEO & Executive Director Sam Riggall bought AU$304k worth of shares at a price of AU$0.21 per share. That implies that an insider found the current price of AU$0.26 per share to be enticing. That means they have been optimistic about the company in the past, though they may have changed their mind. If someone buys shares at well below current prices, it's a good sign on balance, but keep in mind they may no longer see value. The good news for Clean TeQ Holdings share holders is that insiders were buying at near the current price. Notably Sam Riggall was also the biggest seller.
Happily, we note that in the last year insiders paid AU$319k for 1.50m shares. On the other hand they divested 1.46m shares, for AU$310k. In the last twelve months there was more buying than selling by Clean TeQ Holdings insiders. Does Clean TeQ Holdings Boast High Insider Ownership?
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Insiders own 18% of Clean TeQ Holdings shares, worth about AU$39m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
