Here's Why I Think SHUAA Capital PSC (DFM:SHUAA) Is An Interesting Stock
It's only natural that many investors, especially those who are new to the game, prefer to buy shares in 'sexy' stocks with a good story, even if those businesses lose money. And in their study titled Who Falls Prey to the Wolf of Wall Street?' Leuz et. al. found that it is 'quite common' for investors to lose money by buying into 'pump and dump' schemes.
So if you're like me, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like SHUAA Capital PSC (DFM:SHUAA). Even if the shares are fully valued today, most capitalists would recognize its profits as the demonstration of steady value generation. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, but time is often a friend of the profitable company, especially if it is growing.

SHUAA Capital PSC's Improving Profits
Even modest earnings per share growth (EPS) can create meaningful value, when it is sustained reliably from year to year. So it's no surprise that some investors are more inclined to invest in profitable businesses. Like the last firework on New Year's Eve accelerating into the sky, SHUAA Capital PSC's EPS shot from د.إ0.042 to د.إ0.072, over the last year. Year on year growth of 69% is certainly a sight to behold.
I like to see top-line growth as an indication that growth is sustainable, and I look for a high earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margin to point to a competitive moat (though some companies with low margins also have moats). Not all of SHUAA Capital PSC's revenue this year is revenue from operations, so keep in mind the revenue and margin numbers I've used might not be the best representation of the underlying business. While SHUAA Capital PSC may have maintained EBIT margins over the last year, revenue has fallen. And that does make me a little more cautious of the stock.

Are SHUAA Capital PSC Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
I like company leaders to have some skin in the game, so to speak, because it increases alignment of incentives between the people running the business, and its true owners. So it is good to see that SHUAA Capital PSC insiders have a significant amount of capital invested in the stock. Notably, they have an enormous stake in the company, worth د.إ547m. Coming in at 30% of the business, that holding gives insiders a lot of influence, and plenty of reason to generate value for shareholders. So it might be my imagination, but I do sense the glimmer of an opportunity.
Does SHUAA Capital PSC Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?
SHUAA Capital PSC's earnings have taken off like any random crypto-currency did, back in 2017. That EPS growth certainly has my attention, and the large insider ownership only serves to further stoke my interest. The hope is, of course, that the strong growth marks a fundamental improvement in the business economics. So to my mind SHUAA Capital PSC is worth putting on your watchlist; after all, shareholders do well when the market underestimates fast growing companies. Don't forget that there may still be risks. For instance, we've identified 3 warning signs for SHUAA Capital PSC (1 makes us a bit uncomfortable) you should be aware of.
