Should You Take Comfort From Insider Transactions At China Resources Land Limited (HKG:1109)?
We often see insiders buying up shares in companies that perform well over the long term. Unfortunately, there are also plenty of examples of share prices declining precipitously after insiders have sold shares. So shareholders might well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in China Resources Land Limited (HKG:1109).
What Is Insider Buying?
It is perfectly legal for company insiders, including board members, to buy and sell stock in a company. However, most countries require that the company discloses such transactions to the market.
We would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing. But it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing. As Peter Lynch said, 'insiders might sell their shares for any number of reasons, but they buy them for only one: they think the price will rise'.

China Resources Land Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when President & Executive Director Xin Li bought HK$1.2m worth of shares at a price of HK$30.86 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, at around the current price, which is HK$35.35. Of course they may have changed their mind. But this suggests they are optimistic. While we always like to see insider buying, it's less meaningful if the purchases were made at much lower prices, as the opportunity they saw may have passed. Happily, the China Resources Land insider decided to buy shares at close to current prices. Xin Li was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months.
