PSI Group Holdings (NASDAQ:PSIG) Is Investing Its Capital With Increasing Efficiency
There are a few key trends to look for if we want to identify the next multi-bagger. Ideally, a business will show two trends; firstly a growing return on capital employed (ROCE) and secondly, an increasing amount of capital employed. This shows us that it's a compounding machine, able to continually reinvest its earnings back into the business and generate higher returns. With that in mind, the ROCE of PSI Group Holdings (NASDAQ:PSIG) looks great, so lets see what the trend can tell us.
What Is Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)?
For those who don't know, ROCE is a measure of a company's yearly pre-tax profit (its return), relative to the capital employed in the business. The formula for this calculation on PSI Group Holdings is:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.46 = US$6.0m ÷ (US$35m - US$22m) (Based on the trailing twelve months to December 2023).
So, PSI Group Holdings has an ROCE of 46%. That's a fantastic return and not only that, it outpaces the average of 11% earned by companies in a similar industry.

What Does the ROCE Trend For PSI Group Holdings Tell Us?
We like the trends that we're seeing from PSI Group Holdings. The numbers show that in the last four years, the returns generated on capital employed have grown considerably to 46%. The amount of capital employed has increased too, by 70%. This can indicate that there's plenty of opportunities to invest capital internally and at ever higher rates, a combination that's common among multi-baggers.
For the record though, there was a noticeable increase in the company's current liabilities over the period, so we would attribute some of the ROCE growth to that. Effectively this means that suppliers or short-term creditors are now funding 63% of the business, which is more than it was four years ago. Given it's pretty high ratio, we'd remind investors that having current liabilities at those levels can bring about some risks in certain businesses.
The Bottom Line
To sum it up, PSI Group Holdings has proven it can reinvest in the business and generate higher returns on that capital employed, which is terrific. Astute investors may have an opportunity here because the stock has declined 69% in the last year. That being the case, research into the company's current valuation metrics and future prospects seems fitting.
