Investors Shouldn't Overlook The Favourable Returns On Capital At Arista Networks (NYSE:ANET)
To find a multi-bagger stock, what are the underlying trends we should look for in a business? In a perfect world, we'd like to see a company investing more capital into its business and ideally the returns earned from that capital are also increasing. If you see this, it typically means it's a company with a great business model and plenty of profitable reinvestment opportunities. So, when we ran our eye over Arista Networks' (NYSE:ANET) trend of ROCE, we really liked what we saw.
What Is Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)?
For those who don't know, ROCE is a measure of a company's yearly pre-tax profit (its return), relative to the capital employed in the business. The formula for this calculation on Arista Networks is:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.27 = US$1.3b ÷ (US$6.2b - US$1.3b) (Based on the trailing twelve months to September 2022).
So, Arista Networks has an ROCE of 27%. That's a fantastic return and not only that, it outpaces the average of 8.7% earned by companies in a similar industry.

What The Trend Of ROCE Can Tell Us
Arista Networks deserves to be commended in regards to it's returns. The company has consistently earned 27% for the last five years, and the capital employed within the business has risen 183% in that time. Now considering ROCE is an attractive 27%, this combination is actually pretty appealing because it means the business can consistently put money to work and generate these high returns. If Arista Networks can keep this up, we'd be very optimistic about its future.
Our Take On Arista Networks' ROCE
In the end, the company has proven it can reinvest it's capital at high rates of returns, which you'll remember is a trait of a multi-bagger. And the stock has done incredibly well with a 105% return over the last five years, so long term investors are no doubt ecstatic with that result. So even though the stock might be more "expensive" than it was before, we think the strong fundamentals warrant this stock for further research.
