Taitron Components (NASDAQ:TAIT) Is Paying Out A Larger Dividend Than Last Year
Taitron Components Incorporated (NASDAQ:TAIT) will increase its dividend from last year's comparable payment on the 30th of November to $0.05. This will take the annual payment to 5.0% of the stock price, which is above what most companies in the industry pay.
Our analysis indicates that TAIT is potentially undervalued!
Taitron Components' Payment Has Solid Earnings Coverage
A big dividend yield for a few years doesn't mean much if it can't be sustained. Before making this announcement, Taitron Components was paying a whopping 164% as a dividend, but this only made up 28% of its overall earnings. The business might be trying to strike a balance between returning cash to shareholders and reinvesting back into the business, but this high of a payout ratio could definitely force the dividend to be cut if the company runs into a bit of a tough spot.
If the trend of the last few years continues, EPS will grow by 49.3% over the next 12 months. If the dividend continues along recent trends, we estimate the payout ratio will be 35%, which is in the range that makes us comfortable with the sustainability of the dividend.
Taitron Components Is Still Building Its Track Record
It is great to see that Taitron Components has been paying a stable dividend for a number of years now, however we want to be a bit cautious about whether this will remain true through a full economic cycle. Since 2016, the dividend has gone from $0.10 total annually to $0.20. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 12% a year over that time. It is always nice to see strong dividend growth, but with such a short payment history we wouldn't be inclined to rely on it until a longer track record can be developed.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
Investors could be attracted to the stock based on the quality of its payment history. It's encouraging to see that Taitron Components has been growing its earnings per share at 49% a year over the past five years. Earnings per share is growing at a solid clip, and the payout ratio is low which we think is an ideal combination in a dividend stock as the company can quite easily raise the dividend in the future.
Our Thoughts On Taitron Components' Dividend
In summary, while it's always good to see the dividend being raised, we don't think Taitron Components' payments are rock solid. While Taitron Components is earning enough to cover the payments, the cash flows are lacking. Overall, we don't think this company has the makings of a good income stock.
Market movements attest to how highly valued a consistent dividend policy is compared to one which is more unpredictable. However, there are other things to consider for investors when analysing stock performance. To that end, Taitron Components has 4 warning signs (and 1 which is significant) we think you should know about.
