With EPS Growth And More, Dynatrace (NYSE:DT) Makes An Interesting Case

Investors are often guided by the idea of discovering 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without any revenue, let alone profit. Sometimes these stories can cloud the minds of investors, leading them to invest with their emotions rather than on the merit of good company fundamentals. While a well funded company may sustain losses for years, it will need to generate a profit eventually, or else investors will move on and the company will wither away.

So if this idea of high risk and high reward doesn't suit, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Dynatrace (NYSE:DT). Even if this company is fairly valued by the market, investors would agree that generating consistent profits will continue to provide Dynatrace with the means to add long-term value to shareholders.

How Quickly Is Dynatrace Increasing Earnings Per Share?

Generally, companies experiencing growth in earnings per share (EPS) should see similar trends in share price. So it makes sense that experienced investors pay close attention to company EPS when undertaking investment research. It certainly is nice to see that Dynatrace has managed to grow EPS by 24% per year over three years. This has no doubt fuelled the optimism that sees the stock trading on a high multiple of earnings.

Careful consideration of revenue growth and earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margins can help inform a view on the sustainability of the recent profit growth. EBIT margins for Dynatrace remained fairly unchanged over the last year, however the company should be pleased to report its revenue growth for the period of 22% to US$1.5b. That's a real positive.

Are Dynatrace Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

We would not expect to see insiders owning a large percentage of a US$15b company like Dynatrace. But we do take comfort from the fact that they are investors in the company. Given insiders own a significant chunk of shares, currently valued at US$79m, they have plenty of motivation to push the business to succeed. This should keep them focused on creating long term value for shareholders.

Does Dynatrace Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?

For growth investors, Dynatrace's raw rate of earnings growth is a beacon in the night. With EPS growth rates like that, it's hardly surprising to see company higher-ups place confidence in the company through continuing to hold a significant investment. On the balance of its merits, solid EPS growth and company insiders who are aligned with the shareholders would indicate a business that is worthy of further research.
