Optimistic Investors Push Asana, Inc. (NYSE:ASAN) Shares Up 25% But Growth Is Lacking

Asana, Inc. (NYSE:ASAN) shareholders would be excited to see that the share price has had a great month, posting a 25% gain and recovering from prior weakness. Unfortunately, the gains of the last month did little to right the losses of the last year with the stock still down 32% over that time.

Although its price has surged higher, there still wouldn't be many who think Asana's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 5.1x is worth a mention when the median P/S in the United States' Software industry is similar at about 5.6x. While this might not raise any eyebrows, if the P/S ratio is not justified investors could be missing out on a potential opportunity or ignoring looming disappointment.

How Has Asana Performed Recently?

Recent times haven't been great for Asana as its revenue has been rising slower than most other companies. One possibility is that the P/S ratio is moderate because investors think this lacklustre revenue performance will turn around. If not, then existing shareholders may be a little nervous about the viability of the share price.
