Accenture (NYSE:ACN) Has Announced That It Will Be Increasing Its Dividend To $1.29
The board of Accenture plc (NYSE:ACN) has announced that it will be paying its dividend of $1.29 on the 15th of November, an increased payment from last year's comparable dividend. Although the dividend is now higher, the yield is only 1.7%, which is below the industry average.

Accenture's Dividend Is Well Covered By Earnings
The dividend yield is a little bit low, but sustainability of the payments is also an important part of evaluating an income stock. The last dividend was quite easily covered by Accenture's earnings. This indicates that quite a large proportion of earnings is being invested back into the business.
The next year is set to see EPS grow by 36.4%. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 34% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.
Accenture Has A Solid Track Record
The company has been paying a dividend for a long time, and it has been quite stable which gives us confidence in the future dividend potential. The annual payment during the last 10 years was $1.62 in 2013, and the most recent fiscal year payment was $5.16. This means that it has been growing its distributions at 12% per annum over that time. It is good to see that there has been strong dividend growth, and that there haven't been any cuts for a long time.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
The company's investors will be pleased to have been receiving dividend income for some time. Accenture has seen EPS rising for the last five years, at 11% per annum. The company is paying a reasonable amount of earnings to shareholders, and is growing earnings at a decent rate so we think it could be a decent dividend stock.
Accenture Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock
Overall, we think this could be an attractive income stock, and it is only getting better by paying a higher dividend this year. Earnings are easily covering distributions, and the company is generating plenty of cash. All of these factors considered, we think this has solid potential as a dividend stock.
Market movements attest to how highly valued a consistent dividend policy is compared to one which is more unpredictable. Still, investors need to consider a host of other factors, apart from dividend payments, when analysing a company. Earnings growth generally bodes well for the future value of company dividend payments.
