With A 25% Price Drop For TeraWulf Inc. (NASDAQ:WULF) You'll Still Get What You Pay For

TeraWulf Inc. (NASDAQ:WULF) shares have retraced a considerable 25% in the last month, reversing a fair amount of their solid recent performance. Of course, over the longer-term many would still wish they owned shares as the stock's price has soared 218% in the last twelve months.

Although its price has dipped substantially, TeraWulf may still be sending very bearish signals at the moment with a price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 16.2x, since almost half of all companies in the Software industry in the United States have P/S ratios under 5.3x and even P/S lower than 2x are not unusual. Nonetheless, we'd need to dig a little deeper to determine if there is a rational basis for the highly elevated P/S.

How Has TeraWulf Performed Recently?

TeraWulf certainly has been doing a good job lately as it's been growing revenue more than most other companies. It seems the market expects this form will continue into the future, hence the elevated P/S ratio. If not, then existing shareholders might be a little nervous about the viability of the share price.

What Are Revenue Growth Metrics Telling Us About The High P/S?

In order to justify its P/S ratio, TeraWulf would need to produce outstanding growth that's well in excess of the industry.

Taking a look back first, we see that the company grew revenue by an impressive 131% last year. Still, revenue has barely risen at all from three years ago in total, which is not ideal. Therefore, it's fair to say that revenue growth has been inconsistent recently for the company.

Looking ahead now, revenue is anticipated to climb by 61% each year during the coming three years according to the nine analysts following the company. Meanwhile, the rest of the industry is forecast to only expand by 20% per year, which is noticeably less attractive.

In light of this, it's understandable that TeraWulf's P/S sits above the majority of other companies. It seems most investors are expecting this strong future growth and are willing to pay more for the stock.

What We Can Learn From TeraWulf's P/S?

A significant share price dive has done very little to deflate TeraWulf's very lofty P/S. We'd say the price-to-sales ratio's power isn't primarily as a valuation instrument but rather to gauge current investor sentiment and future expectations.

Our look into TeraWulf shows that its P/S ratio remains high on the merit of its strong future revenues. Right now shareholders are comfortable with the P/S as they are quite confident future revenues aren't under threat. It's hard to see the share price falling strongly in the near future under these circumstances.

Don't forget that there may be other risks. For instance, we've identified 3 warning signs for TeraWulf (2 shouldn't be ignored) you should be aware of.
