Lacklustre Performance Is Driving Silvaco Group, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:SVCO) 28% Price Drop
Silvaco Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:SVCO) shares have had a horrible month, losing 28% after a relatively good period beforehand. The drop over the last 30 days has capped off a tough year for shareholders, with the share price down 44% in that time.
After such a large drop in price, Silvaco Group may be sending very bullish signals at the moment with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 2.1x, since almost half of all companies in the Software industry in the United States have P/S ratios greater than 4.8x and even P/S higher than 11x are not unusual. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's so limited.

What Does Silvaco Group's P/S Mean For Shareholders?
Silvaco Group could be doing better as it's been growing revenue less than most other companies lately. Perhaps the market is expecting the current trend of poor revenue growth to continue, which has kept the P/S suppressed. If this is the case, then existing shareholders will probably struggle to get excited about the future direction of the share price.

Silvaco Group's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's expected to deliver very poor growth or even falling revenue, and importantly, perform much worse than the industry.
Taking a look back first, we see that the company grew revenue by an impressive 15% last year. Pleasingly, revenue has also lifted 32% in aggregate from three years ago, thanks to the last 12 months of growth. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.
Shifting to the future, estimates from the six analysts covering the company suggest revenue should grow by 11% over the next year. That's shaping up to be materially lower than the 20% growth forecast for the broader industry.
In light of this, it's understandable that Silvaco Group's P/S sits below the majority of other companies. Apparently many shareholders weren't comfortable holding on while the company is potentially eyeing a less prosperous future.
The Final Word
Shares in Silvaco Group have plummeted and its P/S has followed suit. Typically, we'd caution against reading too much into price-to-sales ratios when settling on investment decisions, though it can reveal plenty about what other market participants think about the company.
As we suspected, our examination of Silvaco Group's analyst forecasts revealed that its inferior revenue outlook is contributing to its low P/S. At this stage investors feel the potential for an improvement in revenue isn't great enough to justify a higher P/S ratio. Unless these conditions improve, they will continue to form a barrier for the share price around these levels.
