Synopsys (SNPS) AI Push Puts Undervalued Narrative Back In Focus

Synopsys (SNPS) is in focus after unveiling autonomous agentic AI workflows for chip design with Microsoft, while deepening collaborations with Nvidia and Intel on AI-powered tools that aim to streamline complex semiconductor development.

See our latest analysis for Synopsys.

Despite AI partnerships with Microsoft, Nvidia and Intel grabbing headlines, Synopsys’ recent share price return has moved the other way, with the stock down 16.45% over 30 days and 22.22% year to date, while the 1 year total shareholder return has fallen 42.09%. This suggests that recent excitement around new tools is arriving against a backdrop of fading momentum after a stronger multiyear run.

Bulls argue Synopsys is being mispriced after a sharp pullback despite its central role in AI chip design. Bears see a stock coming off a long run with sentiment cooling. Which story do current valuation markers support next?

Most Popular Narrative: 33.2% Undervalued

The most followed valuation narrative currently places Synopsys fair value at $559.58 per share, compared with the latest close of $373.69. This frames the recent price slide very differently from the market action.

The acquisition and integration of Ansys positions Synopsys as the global leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems, dramatically expanding its addressable market into sectors like automotive, industrial, and aerospace. This should drive long-term top-line growth as more sophisticated and complex products (especially AI-powered and smart devices) require robust simulation, analysis, and EDA tools.

Want to see what sits behind that confidence in Synopsys fair value? The core of this narrative is a specific mix of revenue growth, margin rebuild and a rich future earnings multiple tied to those projections. Curious which assumptions need to hold for that to stack up?

Result: Fair Value of $559.58 (UNDERVALUED)

Have a read of the narrative in full and understand what's behind the forecasts.

However, there are still clear risks to that Synopsys story, including weaker China demand and higher integration costs from the Ansys deal, which could challenge those assumptions.

Another View: Synopsys Looks Expensive On Earnings Ratios

The SWS DCF model suggests Synopsys is trading about 24.5% below an estimated fair value of $495.11, which leans toward an undervalued story. Yet the current P/E of 92.5x is far above a fair ratio of 48.5x, the US Software industry at 29.6x and peers at 34.1x. Is the market overpaying for growth or underestimating future cash flows?

You’ve overlooked the activist investor factor. Travis Cocke’s Voss has announced 5% ownership through a 13G filing. They’ve added to that 5% since, and in doing so, have created a structural trap door for 27.42 Million Shares actively sold short. Chuck will announce lots of positives on July 29 but it’s what Voss announces shortly after that will rock the overextended Teledoc shorts. The Walmart partnership is the tip of the iceberg. The market is missing the sheer regulatory and enterprise friction of modern corporate healthcare. Teladoc isn't a "consumer app"; it is the primary digital infrastructure integrated directly into the legacy backends of Tier-1 insurance companies and fortune 500 employers, covering 105 million+ lives. Teladoc is acting as the digital top-of-funnel engine for the world's largest retailer. If Voss pushes the narrative that Teladoc is effectively the outsourced digital brain of Walmart's entire healthcare footprint, the fair value shifts from a basic health multiple to an enterprise distribution premium. Additionally , we are in a structural gold rush for high-quality, legally compliant, longitudinal medical data to train vertical healthcare AI models. Large technology hyperscalers and pharmaceutical giants cannot simply scrape the internet for this; they need structured clinical inputs. Teladoc sits on one of the largest de-identified virtual medical datasets on earth. From the activist playbook , we’ll see Voss demand the immediate creation of a Data & Diagnostics Licensing Division, transforming a legacy liability into an incredibly high-margin, pure-software data asset that requires zero human clinician hours to scale. Chuck is doing great work and deserves credi5 for the Teledoc turnaround but it will be Travis Cocke who will be responsible for a share price way beyond your $15 valuation.
