Bit Digital, Inc. (NASDAQ:BTBT) Looks Just Right With A 33% Price Jump

Published
NasdaqCM:BTBT

Despite an already strong run, Bit Digital, Inc. (NASDAQ:BTBT) shares have been powering on, with a gain of 33% in the last thirty days. Not all shareholders will be feeling jubilant, since the share price is still down a very disappointing 20% in the last twelve months.

Following the firm bounce in price, Bit Digital's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 6.4x might make it look like a sell right now compared to the wider Software industry in the United States, where around half of the companies have P/S ratios below 4.4x and even P/S below 1.6x are quite common. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's as high as it is.

How Bit Digital Has Been Performing

With revenue growth that's superior to most other companies of late, Bit Digital has been doing relatively well. The P/S is probably high because investors think this strong revenue performance will continue. However, if this isn't the case, investors might get caught out paying too much for the stock.

Keen to find out how analysts think Bit Digital's future stacks up against the industry? In that case, our free report is a great place to start.

Do Revenue Forecasts Match The High P/S Ratio?

The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/S as high as Bit Digital's is when the company's growth is on track to outshine the industry.

Retrospectively, the last year delivered an exceptional 109% gain to the company's top line. Although, its longer-term performance hasn't been as strong with three-year revenue growth being relatively non-existent overall. Therefore, it's fair to say that revenue growth has been inconsistent recently for the company.

Shifting to the future, estimates from the three analysts covering the company suggest revenue should grow by 114% over the next year. Meanwhile, the rest of the industry is forecast to only expand by 14%, which is noticeably less attractive.

In light of this, it's understandable that Bit Digital's P/S sits above the majority of other companies. Apparently shareholders aren't keen to offload something that is potentially eyeing a more prosperous future.

The Bottom Line On Bit Digital's P/S

Bit Digital shares have taken a big step in a northerly direction, but its P/S is elevated as a result. It's argued the price-to-sales ratio is an inferior measure of value within certain industries, but it can be a powerful business sentiment indicator.

As we suspected, our examination of Bit Digital's analyst forecasts revealed that its superior revenue outlook is contributing to its high P/S. It appears that shareholders are confident in the company's future revenues, which is propping up the P/S. Unless the analysts have really missed the mark, these strong revenue forecasts should keep the share price buoyant.
