AvePoint, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:AVPT) 29% Jump Shows Its Popularity With Investors

Simply Wall St

AvePoint, Inc. (NASDAQ:AVPT) shareholders are no doubt pleased to see that the share price has bounced 29% in the last month, although it is still struggling to make up recently lost ground. The annual gain comes to 115% following the latest surge, making investors sit up and take notice.

Following the firm bounce in price, AvePoint may be sending strong sell signals at present with a price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 10.7x, when you consider almost half of the companies in the Software industry in the United States have P/S ratios under 4.8x and even P/S lower than 1.7x aren't out of the ordinary. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's so lofty.

Do Revenue Forecasts Match The High P/S Ratio?

AvePoint's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's expected to deliver very strong growth, and importantly, perform much better than the industry.

If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 22%. The strong recent performance means it was also able to grow revenue by 72% in total over the last three years. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.

Looking ahead now, revenue is anticipated to climb by 20% each year during the coming three years according to the eight analysts following the company. That's shaping up to be materially higher than the 16% per annum growth forecast for the broader industry.

With this information, we can see why AvePoint is trading at such a high P/S compared to the industry. It seems most investors are expecting this strong future growth and are willing to pay more for the stock.
