PropertyGuru Group Limited (NYSE:PGRU) shares have continued their recent momentum with a 26% gain in the last month alone. Unfortunately, despite the strong performance over the last month, the full year gain of 2.4% isn't as attractive.

Following the firm bounce in price, when almost half of the companies in the United States' Interactive Media and Services industry have price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") below 1.4x, you may consider PropertyGuru Group as a stock not worth researching with its 6.5x P/S ratio. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's so lofty.

How PropertyGuru Group Has Been Performing

Recent times haven't been great for PropertyGuru Group as its revenue has been rising slower than most other companies. Perhaps the market is expecting future revenue performance to undergo a reversal of fortunes, which has elevated the P/S ratio. However, if this isn't the case, investors might get caught out paying too much for the stock.

Keen to find out how analysts think PropertyGuru Group's future stacks up against the industry? In that case, our free report is a great place to start.

Do Revenue Forecasts Match The High P/S Ratio?

There's an inherent assumption that a company should far outperform the industry for P/S ratios like PropertyGuru Group's to be considered reasonable.

Retrospectively, the last year delivered a decent 12% gain to the company's revenues. The latest three year period has also seen an excellent 87% overall rise in revenue, aided somewhat by its short-term performance. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.

Turning to the outlook, the next three years should generate growth of 17% each year as estimated by the five analysts watching the company. With the industry only predicted to deliver 12% each year, the company is positioned for a stronger revenue result.

With this in mind, it's not hard to understand why PropertyGuru Group's P/S is high relative to its industry peers. It seems most investors are expecting this strong future growth and are willing to pay more for the stock.

What Does PropertyGuru Group's P/S Mean For Investors?

PropertyGuru Group's P/S has grown nicely over the last month thanks to a handy boost in the share price. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.

Our look into PropertyGuru Group shows that its P/S ratio remains high on the merit of its strong future revenues. It appears that shareholders are confident in the company's future revenues, which is propping up the P/S. It's hard to see the share price falling strongly in the near future under these circumstances.
