Market Might Still Lack Some Conviction On Precipio, Inc. (NASDAQ:PRPO) Even After 29% Share Price Boost

Precipio, Inc. (NASDAQ:PRPO) shareholders would be excited to see that the share price has had a great month, posting a 29% gain and recovering from prior weakness. Not all shareholders will be feeling jubilant, since the share price is still down a very disappointing 15% in the last twelve months.

Although its price has surged higher, given about half the companies operating in the United States' Healthcare industry have price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") above 1.2x, you may still consider Precipio as an attractive investment with its 0.6x P/S ratio. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

What Does Precipio's Recent Performance Look Like?

With revenue growth that's exceedingly strong of late, Precipio has been doing very well. It might be that many expect the strong revenue performance to degrade substantially, which has repressed the P/S ratio. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

We don't have analyst forecasts, but you can see how recent trends are setting up the company for the future by checking out our free report on Precipio's earnings, revenue and cash flow.

How Is Precipio's Revenue Growth Trending?

There's an inherent assumption that a company should underperform the industry for P/S ratios like Precipio's to be considered reasonable.

If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 53%. The strong recent performance means it was also able to grow revenue by 116% in total over the last three years. So we can start by confirming that the company has done a great job of growing revenue over that time.

Comparing that to the industry, which is only predicted to deliver 7.6% growth in the next 12 months, the company's momentum is stronger based on recent medium-term annualised revenue results.

With this in mind, we find it intriguing that Precipio's P/S isn't as high compared to that of its industry peers. Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance has exceeded its limits and have been accepting significantly lower selling prices.

The Final Word

Precipio's stock price has surged recently, but its but its P/S still remains modest. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.

Our examination of Precipio revealed its three-year revenue trends aren't boosting its P/S anywhere near as much as we would have predicted, given they look better than current industry expectations. Potential investors that are sceptical over continued revenue performance may be preventing the P/S ratio from matching previous strong performance. At least price risks look to be very low if recent medium-term revenue trends continue, but investors seem to think future revenue could see a lot of volatility.
